Forging a Unique Bond: The Origins of Greenhaven DJs
The story behind Greenhaven DJs is quite special to us. In the late '90s, Nick planted his roots in the Greenhaven neighborhood, crossing paths with Trevor in 2000. Back then, finding others who shared a similar affinity for dance music, especially within our age group in the United States, was incredibly rare. Little did we know, our exposure to the more eclectic European music scene during our formative years would set us on a path together and form a lifelong friendship.
Choreographing the Dance of Influence: Trance and Evolution
United by our passion for dance music, we recognized the same desire in each other to understand how it was made, and so our journey began to take shape. Through Trevor, Nick was introduced to the work of artists like Cosmic Gate, among other pioneers in the hard trance scene. Nick then learned from Trevor how to beatmatch and structure a DJ set. Before diving into production, we agreed it was important to first turn our focus to DJing. It was through DJing we began our own musical education, learning about dance music history, song structure and ultimately sculpting our tastes, which ended up developing into something remarkably distinct.
Cinema of Sound: Crafting Our Sonic Signature
Our musical style has been called a fusion of darkness and cinematic flair. As a genre, it might be bucketed under progressive trance, but we think it's actually closer to a niche form of tech trance (techno and trance). At the same time, we avoid worrying about the preconceived expectations of dance genres. We are just two friends passionate about exploring music and contributing back to the canon of work that has inspired us along the way. We take inspiration from musicians and film composers who have dared to push boundaries in sophistication. As a result, our compositions aim to transport listeners on immersive journeys.
Harmonizing Divergent Paths: Collaboration in Creation
Navigating the intricacies of collaboration, where two minds coalesce to produce a singular creation, was always the indented modus operandi we were aiming for. We've since learned to steer clear of creative clashes by nurturing our ideas independently until they've gained a foothold. Only then do we exchange our contributions, harmonizing our visions to mold a fully realized idea.
Cosmic Evolution: Influences on Our Melodic Odyssey
Cosmic Gate, true legends in the dance music world, have etched their mark on our musical psyche. Their perpetual evolution, constant exploration, and boundary-breaking spirit resonate deeply with us. Our sound is inspired by the ethos of many artists who somehow manage to seamlessly blend sophistication, rhythm, and emotion together, much like Cosmic Gate, Evol Waves, Marcus Schossow, Sander van Doorn (just to name a few) in addition to certain film composers.
From Studio to Soundscape: Sculpting Our Sound
The creative process begins to smolder in our studios, where hours are spent in careful preparation, ultimately leading to the start of creation, or as we like to call it curation. Our process begins with foundational ideas that must stand the test of identity, intrigue, and technical finesse. Each track is a treasure of sorts, meticulously mixed at every step, always protecting the enticement of our foundational idea. Retrospection and humility are important to us, the idea must reciprocate back in the most profound way it ever has.

As the electronic music realm continues to evolve, we remain adaptable to evolution. Our musical compass points us unwaveringly on a path of authenticity, and integrity. We will continue our mission to explore, contribute back, and honor the inspirations that have shaped us.
A Glimpse Beyond the Horizon: Upcoming Harmonies
We invite everyone to experience our new film project, a carefully crafted DJ set to accompany the storied walls of the Brooklyn Army Terminal's infamous Atrium in Warehouse B. Our single "Vagabond" which was prominently featured in this film, will finally see the light of day on August 11th, 2023. This track emerged from echoes of "The Hall of Records," drawing inspiration from "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho; evoking cinematic rhythms much darker than we have ever explored before.
The journey of Greenhaven DJs continues to be fueled by a shared love of music that transcends time. Foundationally, we can always look back at our time in Greenhaven and learning to DJ as the start of our journey.
